A message from Towson University's Chief of Police:
The Towson University Police Department is committed to providing effective policing and quality public safety services to the university and its surrounding area. Our staff works diligently to provide a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and community members to live, work and learn.
I am proud to announce that 2007 saw the second-lowest number of part I crimes at the university in more than a decade, with less than one violent crime per thousand students. The number of serious crimes on campus in 2007 was less than half of those in 1997 despite increases in enrollment, residential housing and special events on campus.
The TUPD continuously strives to improve campus safety, whether the threat is small or large. Our Operation KeepSafe program recently won the Governor’s Award for Crime Prevention in providing effective safety tips for the everyday student. Our campus emergency plan, part of the university's all-hazards approach to emergency preparedness, received a stamp of approval by the Maryland Emergency Management Agency.
