Towson University Center for STEM Excellence
The Center for STEM Excellence is located in the Columbus Center at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on Pier VI. The Center is the home of the Bioscience Education and Outreach Program, the Baltimore Excellence in STEM Teaching (BEST) Project, and other efforts.
Bioscience Education and Outreach Program
The Center for STEM Excellence provides outreach programs to Maryland's K–12 schools. The Bioscience Education and Outreach Program team within the Center for STEM Excellence is committed to engaging, exciting and educating Maryland's middle and high school students in science.
Baltimore Excellence in STEM Teaching (BEST) Project
Funded by a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Baltimore Excellence in STEM Teaching (BEST) Project aims to improve high school and middle school science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) instruction throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area. As part of Towson University's Center for STEM Excellence, the BEST Project offers training and mentoring opportunities to in-service STEM teachers as well as educational outreach to their students.
Towson University Biodiversity Center (TUBC)
The Towson University Biodiversity Center (TUBC) is a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project aimed at preservation and consolidation of the existing natural history collections at Towson University. This center is organized around its two largest, most extensive and oldest collections; the botanical and entomological collections.
Towson University Field Station
The Towson University Field Station is a place for faculty and students to investigate and research the natural world. Located on 223 wooded acres in northern Baltimore County, the TU Field Station is adjacent to the Gun Powder Falls State Park and is protected from development by a conservation easement. This makes the area one of the largest natural preserves in central Maryland.
Urban Environmental Biogeochemistry Laboratory
The Urban Environmental Biogeochemistry Laboratory is a collaborative effort between several departments that is dedicated to studying environmental issues associated with urbanization.
