Applied Math Lab Presentation to Baltimore City Stat BoardWelcome to the Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics at Towson University, the largest comprehensive university in the Baltimore area.  Our college offers traditional programs in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Mathematics, Mathematics and Science Education, Actuarial Science and Risk Management, Computer and Information Sciences, as well as an array of interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Sciences and Studies, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Bioinformatics.

Our newest program, forensic chemistry, is specifically designed to prepare students for the demands of this new career opportunity.  Our international 3+2 Programs with the University of Tasmania, Australia give students the opportunity to study Aquaculture or Antarctic and Southern Ocean Studies, earning a B.S. in Biology from TU and a Master’s Degree from UTas, while studying in a unique cultural and educational environment.

Our goal is to provide the highest quality education in an environment that nurtures personal and professional growth.  In FCSM, we know that an education in the sciences and mathematics involves much more than just the classroom experience.  To best prepare our students, we offer extensive academic and professional support services.  Our undergraduate research opportunities include studies in robotics, chemical identification of airborne biological agents, nanotechnology, materials science, applied mathematics, field biology, treatment of herpesvirus infections, computer security, and homeland security.  All undergraduate research students are mentored by an FCSM faculty member as they carry out research using state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation.

Internship opportunities are another important component of professional preparation for careers in the sciences and mathematics.  FCSM students participate in internships at prestigious institutions such as The National Aquarium, The Maryland Zoo, National Institutes of Health, MD Department of the Environment, Fish and Wildlife Service, Space Telescope Institute; Lockheed Martin Corp, Zurich Insurance, and the Social Security Administration.

Field Study in Botany CourseFCSM students are also active in a variety of clubs that promote peer-mentoring, faculty advising, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.  Among the active student clubs are Beta Beta Beta Honorary Biology Society, Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honorary Computer Science Club, Society of Physics Students, Mathematics Club, Mathematics Education Club, Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, Students for the Advancement of Information Technology Club, Actuarial Science & Risk Management Club, Minority Science and Technology Club, Women in Science Club, and the Molecular Biology, Biochemistry & Bioinformatics (MB3) Club.

We invite you to use these pages to learn about the services, programs, and activities available to students, as well as the research and internship opportunities available on campus and in the broader community.  Using these tools and working with a faculty advisor will allow you to navigate smoothly toward graduation and a fulfilling career in the sciences or mathematics.
