Message from the Dean

Dear Friends of The Honors College:

For the past year, I have had the pleasure and good fortune to interact with many incredibly talented students as well as dedicated faculty members as the Dean of the Honors College.

Throughout this site, you will get a glimpse of many exciting initiatives and programs that are taking place and in store for The Honors College at Towson University. As you can see, The Honors College found a home in Stephens Hall.  We have Honors Offices, an Honors student study room, two new ‘smart’ classrooms for honors seminars, as well as an Honors Thesis room for student presentations. Honors College faculty members come from across the university, are leaders in their fields, and enjoy teaching and working with Honors students on scholarly and creative activities.  Some Honors faculty members serve as academic advisers – personally helping students work on both academic and career goals. Honors seminars are on a wide range of original topics that are based on the instructors’ area of interest and allow exchange of ideas and discussion both inside and outside of the classroom.

In addition to opportunities for both faculty and students to explore innovative methods and ideas to education, the Honors College is continuing to enhance its current level of distinction by promoting unique cultural, service and leadership experiences for both Honors students and Honors College faculty.  We are in the process of developing co-curricular opportunities for student leadership, such as a Student Ambassador Program and service learning, such as a Community Involvement Program; creating a Faculty Mentorship Program which would both allow students to design interest driven academic projects and encourage work with individual faculty in a mentoring relationship; supporting distinctive study abroad experiences for honors students and faculty; starting a student led Honors College Colloquium series for the university community; and attempting to establish an Honors College Associate Program for new Honors College alumni to gain a year of work experience as student advisers and outreach ambassadors.

Come visit us and see what’s going on!  Meet the faculty, staff and other students who make the Honors College a unique and special program.  If you would like more information about the Honors College, have ideas of new ways you or I can contribute to our students’ success, or to make a gift that will enable the Honors College to grow and expand the resources and opportunities available to today’s students, please feel free to contact me at any time.

Yours very truly,Dean Fracasso
