Honors College Student Council: HCSC

Honors College Students Create Community, Promote Leadership

The Honors College Student Council was established in fall 2005 thanks to the efforts of current Honors College students and administration. While every honors student is part of the HCSC, participation within the organization depends upon each member's personal choice. Each term, the HCSC will convene for an open forum with Honors College administrators to discuss the term's calendar, events, deadlines, projects and goals.

The purpose of the HCSC is:

  • To create community and friendship among honors college students
  • To enhance the college experience of the student through a variety of interdisciplinary activities
  • To participate in events with academic, social, cultural, and
    stewardship themes
  • To provide the Honors College with student input on courses,
    professors, and programs
  • To meet twice a month to plan activities, hold discussions on student issues, and have fun!


Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:15 pm in Richmond Commons, starting September 10th, 2008.

Come to the meeting to find out which committee(s) you can join to take part in the action! Committees will be formed on an as needed basis. Examples of committees include and are not limited to:

  • Stewardship (an individual committee for each different project)
  • Bingo night committee
  • Generation Jeopardy committee
  • Media

Description of Officer Positions and Examples of Duties:

 President:  Organizes HCSC as a whole, conducts meetings, reserves University services   for   events, (transportation, food, room requests, parking, etc.) meets all SGA due dates, (i.e.    budget, waiver forms, rosters, etc.) and much more!

Vice President: Assists the President, fills in when/if the President is absent.

Treasurer: Attends SGA budget meetings to learn the student group budgeting process, creates the group budget in accordance to all the SGA standards, attends meetings to revise the budget, attends the SGA budget hearing each semester, fills out forms to take out money group needs for events, handles all reimbursement and money transactions.

Stewardship Coordinator: Organizes the planning of all community service events for the group, contacts community areas where HSCS is interested in volunteering.

Media Relations: Advertises all HCSC events; organizes poster making, chalking; submits ads to Daily Digest and the Towerlight; creates and distributes flyers.

 Assistant officer: This position could be expanded/changed. Lends a helping hand to any of the above positions/duties, coordinates the HCSC facebook page, takes pictures at events; represents HCSC at SGA meetings.
