These are tentative dates and plans for the fall 2007 and spring 2008 term. Times and dates may change at any time so check back for updates.

MAY

Honors College Convocation

Sunday, May 4th, 2:00-4:00pm, Potomac Lounge

The Honors College will be hosting their graduation convocation on Sunday, May 4th for all those who are graduating from the Honors College in Spring 2008. If you have not done so already, please fill out the Honors College Graduation Application and return it to the Honors College in Stephens Hall, Room 302.
MAY

APRIL

Conversations with Dr. Maria Fracasso, Dean of the Honors College and HCSC Meeting

Wednesday, April 9, 6:15-7:15, Richmond Commons

Dr. Maria Fracasso, Dean of the Honors College, will engage in a conversation with students about their expectations for the Honors College.  Refreshments will be served.

Also, candidates for next year’s HCSC officers will announce their interest in the positions and their plans for HCSC.  Nominations for HCSC officers are currently being accepted.  Nominate yourself or a friend by e-mailing HCSC@towson.edu.

 

HCSC Bowling Fundraiser

Thursday, April 10, 8:45 shuttle from Richmond Hall

Shuttle leaves from Richmond Hall at 8:45.

$10 will cover your shoe rental as well as one game at AMF Towson Lanes (701 Southwick Drive).  Additional games may be purchased for $1 each.  Free transportation will be provided from Richmond Hall.  Please stop by the Honors College office to pay your $10 donation and sign up for the bowling fundraiser.

 

Visit the National Zoo with HCSC

Sunday, April 13, University Union

Shuttle leaves from the University Union loading docks at 10:00.

Join the HCSC as we visit the National Zoo in Washington, DC.  Transportation will be provided, and zoo admission is free.  Please sign up in the Honors College office and pay a $5 deposit that will be refunded to you on the shuttle.

Conversations with the Career Center

Thursday, March 6, 3:30-5:00 ST 300

Enjoy free cookies and beverages while you learn about the many services that the Career Center has to offer, including preparation for grad school and job applications.  Bring your questions and share in the conversation.


Honors College Study Abroad Information Session

Wednesday, March 12, 5:30-6:30 Richmond Commons

Enjoy free pizza while you listen to your Honors College classmates share their recent study abroad experiences.  A representative from the Study Abroad Office will also be available to answer any questions about their wide variety of programs.

Interested in becoming an HCSC officer? Come learn about the various officer positions that will be open for election in April. Remember, all Honors College students are automatically members of the Honors College Student Council.

Seminar Night

Monday, March 31, at 6 p.m. in Richmond Commons

Enjoy free pizza and beverages while listening to short faculty presentations about the seminars to be offered over the next year.  Faculty will briefly share their plans for the upcoming seminar with Honors College students.  They will aslo be available for student questions

JANUARY

Submissions for MCHC Portz Award due

Friday, January 25th


Submissions for the MCHC Portz Award are due. Please turn in the following items to the Honors College: (1) a brief description of your involvement in the Honors College or extracurricular or community activities demonstrating initiative and leadership; (2) a letter of recommendation from a faculty member who has taught one of your Honors courses; and (3) a copy of a significant project that you completed for an Honors course. MCHC Portz Award winners receive a $500 stipend.

NRHC Conference Proposals

Thursday, November 8th

The Northeast Regional Honors Council (NRHC) proposals are due for the next NRHC conference to be held in Morristown, NJ April 3-6, 2008. Please submit electronic text proposals to honors@towson.edu.

NCHC Logo Contest

Wednesday, November 21

Submissions for the NCHC logo contest are due. NCHC is looking for inspired students to participate in a logo design contest to design NCHC's new logo. The logo will be used by NCHC on its website, publications, and all correspondence. The logo will become the property of NCHC. The logo must represent and include aspects of NCHC's vision, mission, and core values, which can be viewed at www.nchchonors.org. The winning designer will receive a prize of $1000. Please submit electronic logo designs to honors@towson.edu.

 

MCHC Proposals

Monday, November 26

Proposals are due for the next MCHC conference to be held at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, MD February 29-March 1, 2008. Please submit electronic text proposals to honors@towson.edu.

HCSC History of Halloween Event

Wednesday, October 24, 6:30p.m., Richmond Commons

The Honors College Student Council will host a History of Halloween event open to all members of the Towson University community. Erin Mountz, Assistant Dean of the Honors College, will present a short lecture on the origins of autumnal celebrations in Europe and how they were transformed into Halloween festivities in the American colonies. Plenty of food will be provided, and traditional Halloween games will follow the lecture. Participants are encouraged to come in costume!

HCSC Will Visit Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital

Friday, October 19, 2:00p.m.-5:00pm.

The HCSC is planning to visit the Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital on Friday, October 19. The carpool will leave at 2:00, and plan to return to the university around 5:00. Arts and craft supplies have been purchased for the kids to help them make masks and decorations for Halloween. All donations collected from students, faculty, and staff will be given to the hospital.

Maryland Renaissance Festival
Sunday, September 23, 9 a.m., University Union loading dock


Join the HCSC for a trip to the Renaissance Festival. We will be departing at 9AM from the University loading docks and returing at 6:30PM. Transportation to the festival will be free but admission to get in will be $13. We highly recommend bringing extra spending money!

To reserve your spot on the shuttle, bring a $5 deposit to the Honors College office at Stephens Hall, 302 that will be returned to you when you board the shuttle. Deposits are due by Thursday, September 20th. E-mail HCSC@towson.edu with any questions!

Monday, August 27, 4-7 p.m., Newell Field

Come kick off the fall semester at The Honors College Welcome Barbecue filled with good food and great company. Get to know incoming Honors College students as well as faculty members who will be teaching the fall semester courses.
