Below is a listing of current and past committees, outreach, mentoring and organizations that assist the Academic Achievement Center staff with making connections and staying informed about trends and research.
Committees
Middle States We are currently assisting with the Middle States Self-Study by participating in two committees. The work accomplished will continue to help Towson University evolve while maintaining quality programs and services.
Early Warning As Towson University works towards implementing an early warning system, our staff participate to support this initiative to assist with retention efforts and help students identify resources on campus to assist them with reaching their academic goals.
DVMT Redesign Developmental Math is in the process of implementing redesign changes including incorporating technology and built in support to enable students to complete developmental requirements.
Integrated Programming Council (IPC) Working with a group of Student Affairs representatives, we participate in announcing programs that are taking place on campus, and collaborating with various departments on campus.
Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) Transition Our office participates in meetings to assist students with a smooth transition to Towson University.
Outreach
Phi Delta Kappa International (PDK) In collaboration with PDK's Towson University Chapter 0202 through the College of Education, our staff members, who are affiliates, participate on the board and actively engage in service opportunities and networking. Through this international honors education fraternity, we receive current publications directly related to educational issues facing us today.
Freshman and Transfer Student Orientations The Academic Achievement Center sets up shop, providing information about our services to incoming students. We also speak directly to students and parents during the programs that are offered.
Destination TU and Open Houses We welcome visitors to campus as they consider Towson University. With our sample presentation and helpful handouts, the Academic Achievement Center offers an information booth at each of these events.
College Bound Staying in contact with College Bound counselors enables the AAC to support the students who transition to Towson University as part of that program.
Achievement Counts We have visited local high schools to discuss preparing for college. Sessions are conducted in a seminar format. During each session, students are encouraged to take more challenging classes and to participate in skill building extracurricular activities.
