Fact Sheet - Policies
This list of suggestions, policies and procedures should help students take full advantage of services.
-
Always discuss course difficulties with the instructor first. Utilize the
Academic Achievement Center as a secondary resource.
-
Small group and individual tutoring sessions are provided free-of-charge, on a
first-come, first-served basis, and depend upon the availability of a qualified
tutor.
-
Group and individual tutoring sessions are usually held in the AAC and other
approved campus locations. -
Students who schedule for
individual tutoring sessions are eligible for one hour of tutoring
weekly. Schedule your tutoring session by using TutorTrac™ at least 48
hours before the desired day/time. If you cannot attend a tutoring
appointment, cancel the session by using TutorTrac™ 24 hours ahead of time.
Frequent cancellations or absences, without an acceptable reason, will lead to
termination of services.
-
Group tutoring sessions are scheduled weekly and limited to six (6)
students.
-
Class attendance is imperative. Bring appropriate course textbooks,
class notes, and returned tests or quizzes to your sessions. Be prepared to
identify and discuss course difficulties. Tutoring sessions can be
cancelled if you are not prepared.
-
Towson University faculty recommend all peer tutors. Your tutor will
help you understand significant course concepts, develop problem-solving
strategies, and suggest study strategies if necessary. Your tutor may
not be able to answer all questions. Your tutor will not complete or
assist with homework, project, writing and research assignments; similar problems can be worked on during your
session. Contact the
Center's director if concerns arise.
-
Your tutor will attend all scheduled tutoring sessions unless an unexpected
situation arises. Your tutor will contact you and the Center if an absence is anticipated.
Tutors will also provide a
make-up session if time permits.
-
If you no longer need tutorial
assistance, or drop or withdraw from a course,
please inform your tutor and the AAC immediately. Other students may be
waiting for help.
-
Your feedback is very important to
us. We expect you to evaluate our services after the final exam period.
Your attention to this information is appreciated, and the
Center's staff wish you a very successful semester.
