Our mission is to facilitate a community of learners by coordinating high quality tutoring, structured study groups and offering study skills workshops for Towson University students.

The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) was created in 2003 by a merger of Developmental Education and Tutorial Services under the direction of Terri Massie-Burrell.  The AAC oversees tutoring at 4 decentralized locations across campus, as well as tutoring that occurs at the center.  In 2004 the tutoring program received CRLA certification up through level 3 and placement testing progressed from paper and pencil tests to computer adaptive testing using Accuplacer™.  TutorTrac™ is now utilized to track tutoring sessions and implementation has expanded to include Athletics, and the Student Daycare Center for scheduling and tracking visits as well as observations.

Fall 2005, the Math tutoring lab moved to a new location in YR 7800, room 105, and in Fall 2006, the Computer Science tutoring lab moved to a new location in YR7800, room 416 and in October placement testing moved to Academic Advising in the Lecture Hall.
The main Academic Achievement Center will be moved to Cook Library, room 524, during the January 2007session.

The Academic Achievement Center staff continues to assist with two pilot programs, ASAP and Top 10% in support of President Caret's 2010 plan.  Currently structured study sessions are offered as a pilot program in support of the developmental math students.
