AACC Programs
Each year the AACC offers a variety of programs designed to highlight the contributions that people of African descent have made to world culture.
Programming includes:

Martin Luther King Celebration! Lecture featuring Dr. Zenobia Hikes Vice President for Student Affairs, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Feb.16, 7 p.m. in the University Union, Potomac Lounge

Red Roses and Ebony Flicks Film Festival, Feb 17th from 8pm to midnight in the University Union, PAWS. Enjoy two FREE movies and enter into a raffle to recieve a $50 gift card to The Melting Pot Restaurant. A "Friday Night Live" cosponsored event.

Distinguished Black Scholars Lecture Series
honored Gwendolyn E. Boyd on November 16, 2005. Past
honored luminaries include Mary Frances Berry (former
chair of the US Civil Rights Commission,) Lucile
Clifton, (distinguished writer and poet,) and Haile
Gerima (writer, director and producer of the seminal
film, "Sankofa") just to name a few.

Cultural/Educational Field Trips,
like Southern Exposure. In March of 2005, the African
American Cultural Center and Hillel of Towson
University organized Southern Exposure, an Alternative
Spring Break. Students traveled to Alabama, Georgia
and other stops during spring break, timed to coincide
with the 40th anniversary of the March for Voters
Rights from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.

1912-2006
Towson University acknowledges the passing of famed
photojournalist, Gordon Parks.
In May 2001, the African
American Cultural Center, along with the College of Fine Arts and
Communications, awarded Gordon Parks with an honorary degree of
Doctor of Humane Letters.
