To better prepare students interested in accounting for successful and satisfying futures.
Mission
For firms, within the Baltimore area and beyond, to come to recognize Towson Accounting students as more informed, intellectual, and assertive than their peers.
Goal
The Goal of the Towson Accounting Club is to provide an opportunity for students to develop their accounting career both academically and professionally, including networking and developing student-professional relationships early on as a key role.
Constitution
Article I – Name
The name of this organization shall be The Towson Accounting Club
Article II – Purpose
The purpose of the club shall be to promote a better understanding of the accounting profession and to better prepare students interested in accounting for successful and satisfying careers. The goal is to assist students in developing their careers both academically and professionally, including networking and developing student-professional relationships early on as a key role.
Article III – Membership
Section 1 – Any fee paying, undergraduate student enrolled in Towson University with at least a 2.0 GPA may become a member of The Accounting Club with voting rights and office holding privileges. The club shall determine the standards for membership and the amount of dues to be paid.
Section 2 – Dues, having been decided on by the club as $15 per semester, shall be paid by members only.
Article IV – Executive Officers
The executive officers of The Accounting Club shall be as follows: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Controller. The aforementioned officers shall constitute the Executive Committee.
Article V – Duties of the Executive Officers
President – To preside at executive committee and general meetings; to contact firms and other organizations and invite them to present at meetings; to ensure attendance sheets are completed at each meeting; to ensure needs are met regarding venue; to review drafts written by Vice President; and perform other such duties as may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive Committee.
Vice President – To preside in the President’s absence and perform other such duties as may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive Committee; to prepare and keep a record of attendance sheets; to send out weekly reminder e-mails regarding meetings; order food for meetings and coordinate payment with presenters; plan and organize publicity for activities and special events.
Treasurer – To supervise the financial administration of all revenue periodically to the Executive Committee and membership on the financial condition of the organization; collect membership dues; and perform other such duties as may be required by the By-laws or resolutions of the Executive Committee.
Controller – To provide members with receipts for dues; to keep records of membership dues payment; keep records of any other financial activity; and perform other such duties as may be required by the By-laws or resolutions of the Executive Committee.
External Liaison – To represent the Towson Accounting Club in all matters outside of general meetings or events; informing members of any pertinent information regarding other organizations; working towards increasing TAC involvement in the Towson University community; organizing members for any events TAC chooses to be involved.
Article VI – Elections
- Election of the officers shall take place at the closure of each semester.
- Elections will be chaired by the outgoing president.
- The Vice President will automatically take the place of the outgoing president for the following semester.
- In the event of a tie, a revote will be done.
- Any student member is eligible to vote and for nomination as an officer of the Executive Committee who (a) meets the Towson University SGA eligibility for student office holding which consists of a 2.0 GPA and (b) fulfills the qualification as set up by the Executive Committee.
- An officer may be impeached by a 2/3 majority vote if he or she is not fulfilling their constitutional duties.
Article VII – Amendments
Amendments to this constitution may be proposed to the voting membership by majority vote of the Executive Committee or by petition signed by ¼ of the voting membership. Amendments shall be declared or adopted upon SGA approval.
Article VIII – By-Laws By-Laws, not inconsistent with this constitution, may be adopted or amended by a 2/3 majority of the voting members present at any general or special meetings, provided the By-Laws are submitted in writing at least one week previously at either regular or special meetings of the general membership and upon SGA approval.
