Article I – Name

The name of this organization shall be the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) of Towson University.

Article II – Purpose

The mission of the ACDA is to promote excellence in choral artistry. Through student involvement in educational activities – including rehearsal observations, conducting opportunities, and social events – the organization seeks to supplement the choral curriculum at Towson University.

Article III – Membership

Section 1- Any full time fee paying undergraduate enrolled in Towson University with an interest in choral conducting may become a member of the ACDA with full voting rights and inclusion in a committee.

Section 2- Any ACDA member who 1) has been active for at least one previous semester and 2) meets the Towson University SGA eligibility requirement for holding office of a 2.0 GPA is eligible to hold an office.

Section 3- Dues of $10 per semester must be paid to the Treasurer by October 1 for the Fall semester and March 1 for the Spring semester.

Section 4- All members must be registered with the national office of ACDA and pay any required national dues or membership fees.

Article IV – Executive Board

The Executive Board of the ACDA will consist of the following elected members: President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer.

Article V – Duties of the Executive Board

President- To preside at Executive Board, Planning, and general meetings; to oversee the selection of committees and appoint special committees with the approval of the Executive Board; to complete and present the annual report required by the national ACDA office

Vice President- To preside in the President’s absence; to assist in the organization of the agenda for Planning and general meetings; to attend monthly Music Student Council meetings as an ACDA representative

Secretary - To attend to all general correspondence of the organization and to keep the minutes of all Executive Board, Planning, and general meetings; to preserve the records of the organization.

Treasurer - To supervise the financial administration of the ACDA and make reports on the group’s financial status to the Executive Board and the general membership.

All positions will also perform other duties as may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive Board.

Article VI – Committees

Section 1- The ACDA will include three committees: the Fundraising Committee, the Service Committee, and the Social Committee.

Section 2- All dues paying members of the ACDA shall be a member of a committee. The selection of committee may be made by volunteer or by appointment from the Executive Board.

Section 3- Members will continue their membership to their respective committee from semester to semester. Any requests for a change of committee must be made in writing to the Executive Board.

Section 4- Each committee will select a Chairperson at the first meeting of each semester. The Chairpersons are responsible for the organization of the group and for making reports to the Executive Board and the general membership on the proceedings of their committee.

Article VII –Meetings

Section 1- The general membership of the ACDA will meet at least once a month. These meetings shall include at least administrative business and meeting opportunities for the committees.

Section 2- The Planning Committee, consisting of the Executive Board and the Committee Chairpersons, shall meet biweekly to discuss the committee’s progress and present items for the next general meeting’s agenda.

Article VIII – Elections

Section 1- Election of the officers of the Executive Board shall take place yearly during the April meeting.

Section 2- Any eligible student may be nominated by themselves or another ACDA member in good standing. All nominations must be seconded by an ACDA member in good standing.

Section 3- The term for the officers of the Executive Board will begin on June 1 following each election and continues until May 30 the following year. Each officer is only allowed to serve two terms in any one office.

Article IX – Amendments

Amendments to this Constitution may be proposed to the voting membership by majority vote of the Executive Board or by petition signed by one-fourth of the voting membership. Amendments shall be declared adopted after receiving a majority favorable vote at a general meeting where at least ten voting members are present, and after being approved by the SGA.

Article X – By-Laws

By-Laws, not inconsistent with this constitution, may be adopted or amended by a two-thirds majority of the voting members present at any general meeting, provided the By-Laws are submitted in writing at least one week prior to the Executive Board.
