Every commuter student, faculty, and staff member who is approved for the Alternative Transportation Program will automatically be registered for the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) service, which provides subsidized taxi rides or short-term car rentals for individuals who have to leave campus unexpectedly. The service allows participants who carpool, bike, walk, ride the shuttle, or take public transportation to TU for school and/or work to receive a ride home when there is an emergency or a last-minute schedule change.
How It Works
Approved participants of the Alternative Transportation Program are automatically registered for the service. Participants will be notified via email when registration is complete. The service may be used up to four times per calendar year for unexpected emergencies such as personal illness, family illness, unexpected overtime, or problems with your carpool driver's schedule or vehicle. The service may not be used for weather-related inconveniences, pre-planned appointments, personal errands, or for traveling to work. An application must be submitted each academic year to continue in the program.
Taxi is the primary GRH option for individuals traveling less than 20 miles. Participants can take a taxi to their home or to the location of the emergency. Contact a taxi company, ask the driver for a receipt and submit the taxi receipt along with the Travel Expense Voucher to the Parking and Transportation Services office. Original documents are required. The taxi ride will be reimbursed up to $40.
Individuals traveling more than 20 miles should consider a rental car. Enterprise will provide a small-size car free of charge after verifying the rental request with Parking and Transportation Services. The rental vehicle will be reimbursed up to $40. Participants must meet the following Enterprise eligibility requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be at least age 21
Renter must complete the Rental Agreement at time of rental
Must have a credit or debit card in the renter's name

To receive reimbursement for a taxi ride or MARC Train/Rabbittransit monthly passes, complete the Travel Expense Voucher form. Within 10 business days, submit the completed voucher form and the original receipt to Parking & Transportation Services. Upon approval, the voucher will be forwarded to the Working Fund. Participants will be notified via email within two weeks when the reimbursement is ready for pick up.
