Facilities Planning

1. Does the university have a Campus Master Plan? If so, how frequently is it updated?
Yes, the university has a Campus Master Plan that was completely rewritten in the last quarter of 1997 and 2003.   The university reviews the Campus Master Plan annually and makes any revisions necessary by addendum. The university's intent is to complete a rewrite of the Campus Master Plan every five years, incorporating all changes made by addendum.

2. What is the purpose of the university's Campus Master Plan?
The major purpose of the Campus Master Plan is to identify the scope, size and nature of facility projects needed to support the university's Strategic Plan/Academic Mission. The plan is developed to address the ten-year needs of the university and is updated annually to address changes in academic mission and curriculum. The Campus Master Plan also serves as the university's guide for developing specific facility programs that require capital construction funding from the state.

3. Are space planning and furniture layout services available to the campus community?  If so, how do you request such services?
The process for requesting space planning and furniture layout services is the same as submitting a project request form. You must obtain approval for your project from the dean of your college then your request will be sent to the Campus Space Committee for approval.  From there, your project will be coordinated by Facilities Planning and AEC.

Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC)

1. How do I request design services?
The process for requesting professional design services from AEC is the same as submitting a project request form.  Your request will be forwarded to Facilities Planning for coordination and approval by the Campus Space Committee and then on to the director of AEC for assignment to a project manager who will contact the requester.

2. Is there a charge or fee associated with design services?
Project management, conceptual design and budget estimating services are usually provided by AEC at no direct expense to the campus community. However, if the services of an outside consultant are required, the estimated costs of these consultants would be included in a project's budget.

3. How do I know if an outside consultant will be required for my project?
Most projects that require construction, HVAC modification or significant electric work will usually require the services of a professional consultant. We have several methods available for rocuring professional services including on-call design consultants, as well as on-call design build services where design consultants are part of the builders team. When you request services relative to a design or construction project, an AEC project manager will meet with you and discuss the recommended options available for your project.
