These supplemental benefits are completely voluntary and independent from the university. Employees who choose to choose to purchase these benefits are contracting directly with the company providing the benefit, and will be required to pay any associated costs.
Towson employees are eligible for cell phone service at a discount with the following vendors. Cruise One offers discounts of up to 60% on a variety of cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Cunard, NCL, Princess, Carnival and Holland America. The company’s cruise specialists will keep you informed of special rates available, and help you choose the right cruise line and destination according to interest and budget. With two locations in the Baltimore area, Erickson Living Retirement Communities contain modern, comfortable apartment homes in a private, gated community open to individuals age 60 or above. The friendly environment offers a wide variety of amenities, from a fitness center and indoor pool to an on-site medical center. TU employees interested in the communities will pay no processing fee when they join the priority waiting list for available homes. This is a savings of $150 for individuals and $300 for couples (though there is still a cost associated with joining the list).
Periodically, the Office of Human Resources (OHR) receives discounts from retail companies and entertainment venues such as Macy’s, Hershey Park, and King’s Dominion. These discounts are available to the campus community on a first-come, first-served basis. Call OHR for information and availability.
Towson employees and their families are eligible to receive discount rates as a corporate class member from Enterprise Rent‐A-Car.
Contact Enterprise via their website or 1‐800‐Rent‐A‐Car, indicate that you are a corporate class member and provide TU corporate account number 18B1708 to receive a discount. Information cards on the discount are available in in the Office of Human Resources.
Smartmove is a free service which offers its members assistance with and rewards for purchasing and selling properties. Members gain access to home buying and selling seminars, assistance with selecting a realtor, and other individualized real estate services via SmartMove advocates. In addition, Smartmove members receive cash rebates every time they buy or sell real estate, including residential, commercial and investment properties.
The United Buying Service (UBS) is a membership-based program that offers pre-negotiated cost savings on vehicle and furniture purchases in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. Metro area. The service pools the buying power of its members in order to achieve pre-negotiated discounts on new and used cars and other household items. Towson University is a UBS member organization, so all TU employees and their families are eligible to use the service.
TU employees may elect to sign up for pre-paid legal services via a network of providers across the U.S. Employees pay $5.98 per week, and in return, they and their families receive legal assistance and guidance whenever necessary. This benefit is available via payroll deduction.
Employees of the university can trade information, services and deals on the Faculty/Staff Bulletin Board. To promote your cause across campus, go to the bulletin board website and select the “Insert an Item” link at the top of the page.
