In 2010, Apple began migrating all Apple software purchases online to Apple iTunes "app" stores for Mac computers and iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) . Below are your options for university software purchases.
A. Individual Software Purchase: to purchase individual apps for individual devices with a university p-card, go to one of the Apple iTunes app store sites below:
For Mac computers: Apple has the Apple Software Volume Licensing program that enables departments to purchase single or mulitple licenses for Apple software, e.g. Keynote, Final Cut Pro, etc. This program is useful when departments want to upgrade Apple software on multiple Macs in a computer lab. http://www.apple.com/mac/volume-licensing/
C. Computer Classrooms and Labs: The Office of Technology Services can provide the standard Mac configuration image for the latest Mac operating system that lab managers can adapt fore their labs; the image includes all the university standard applications including Microsoft Office. Contact the Faculty/Staff Help Center at 410-704-5151, menu options 2+2+2 to request the image; staff will refer you to a Mac Team staff member.
Mac OS maintenance for classrooms and labs: Mac OS X Maintenance is a three-year subscription entitling customers to every major release of Mac OS X delivered during the contract term. Requirements: 20+ Macs in the lab or classroom'; cost is approximately $20.00/per Mac; Student Technology Fees (STF) will purchase this maintenace for qualified computers.
For classrooms and labs with less than 20 Macs, new releases of the MAC OS much be purchased at full price; cost is approximately $30.00/per Mac; Student Technology Fees (STF) will purchase the OS upgrade for qualified computers.
2. Adobe / Macromedia Software Purchases
There is a
Maryland Enterprise Education Consortium (MEEC) Licensing Agreement
to purchase Adobe / Macromedia Software at a discount for university purchases. To purchase MEEC software, contact: Mary Anne Czyz at 410-704-5027 or e-mail: mczyz@towson.edu
Notes on Adobe / Macromedia Software Concurrent Licensing
Concurrent licenses are available for some Adobe/Macromedia Products. However, your department would need to have a Mac license management server for concurrent license to work. Purchasing concurrent licenses from MEEC may also void existing licenses that you have; check with your software vender before purchasing concurrent licensing.
3. Other Software
Purchasing other third party software for your Mac can be done by searching the Internet and looking for educational discounts; if purchasing more than one copy of a software license also look for volume discounts.
