Resident Student Dining Plans

Dining plans are designed to accommodate your academic, work and social schedules, as well as your eating patterns. If you’re living in the residence halls, you’re required by the university to purchase a dining plan. You can choose either a Restricted or Unrestricted Meal Plan. Your student ID, the OneCard, allows you to use your meal plan at the Glen Marketplace, Newell Dining Hall and all of our a-la-carte locations. All meal plans come with two components: meals and dining points.

Meals

The main part of your meal plan is the number of meals per week. For students living in traditional residence halls, there is no better value than the "meals per week" feature. It allows you to enjoy the specified number of meals each week during the semester of your plan. Cash allowance or trade-in value for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available in many of our a-la-carte facilities through the meal exchange program. Each time you use a meal it is subtracted from your weekly balance. Meals do not carry over from week to week. The meal plans reset every Thursday night.

Meal Periods are as follows:
Breakfast: 7 a.m. – 11 a.m
Lunch: 11 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
Dinner: 4:15 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

Dining Points

OneCard Dining Points are a declining balance account that works like a debit card. You can use Dining Points to buy additional meals, snacks and beverages at a-la-carte locations. Each time you make a purchase, the amount is subtracted from your OneCard Dining Points balance. Dining Points carry over from semester to semester and year to year, as long as you are an enrolled student. You can add Dining Points to your OneCard account at any time.

How to Choose a Dining Plan

Advantages of the Unrestricted Meal Plan

  • Unrestricted Meal Plans are flexible. Unrestricted Meal Plans allow you to eat more than one meal per meal period. For example, eating lunch at 11:05 a.m., and a second meal at 3:30 p.m., would place both meals in the lunch meal period.
  • With an Unrestricted Meal Plan, you can swap unused meals for cash allowances toward a-la-carte purchases at numerous locations around campus including PAWS, the Den and the Susquehanna Food Court.
  • Students with an Unrestricted Meal Plan have fewer missed meals than those who have a Restricted Meal Plan.

Advantages of the Restricted Meal Plan

  • A Restricted Meal Plan costs less than a corresponding Unrestricted Meal Plan. Please note: Restricted Meal Plans limit participants to one (1) meal per meal period.

What Unrestricted and Traditional Meal Plans Have in Common

Both dining plans are for a specific number of all-you-can-eat meals per week. All meals must be used before the end of the meal plan week or you will lose them. Unrestricted and Restricted Meal Plans are priced per semester. You will have the opportunity to change your meal plan each semester.
