Hybrid Vehicle Permits

As part of Towson University's Go Green initiative, Parking and Transportation Services is offering a hybrid vehicle permit program. Eligible faculty, staff and students who drive hybrid vehicles can obtain an annual parking permit at half of the applicable rate.

Below is a link to the application and policies associated with the hybrid vehicle permit program. Applications must be renewed each academic year for students.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations- Available Now!

Towson University has installed electric vehicle charging stations on campus. These stations will serve as charging points for electric vehicle owners. The charging stations are provided by ChargePoint. More information about the equipment can be found here.

• Contribute to the University’s sustainable commitment and go green initiative
• Reduce the University’s greenhouse gas inventory
• Reduce the university’s costs on fuel for its own vehicle fleet
• Encourage the electric vehicle market

How the Program Works

• EV Charging station parking spaces will be located throughout the campus
• Must have a valid TU parking permit (Mon-Thu 6:00am-8:00pm & Fri 6:00am-3:00pm) and be plugged in at all times to occupy space
• Charging stations available 24/7
• No long-term parking allowed
  

How to Use the EV Charging Station

How to Get Started:

Gain Access:
1. Sign up online at www.chargepoint.com. A ChargePoint card will be mailed to you.
2. Use a smart (contactless) credit card.
3. Call (888) 758-4389 on ChargePoint station. The customer service representative will start the station for you.
4. Use ChargePoint app available on Android or Iphone. Station will be started remotely with application usage.

If using the app or calling the 888 number, the machine will automatically start for you.

If using a card option:
1. Look for the reader symbol.
2. Hold your ChargePoint card or the contactless credit card over the station’s reader symbol. When the station authorizes you:

Level I with 2 kW output (for users with own power cord):
A. Open the locking door.
B. Plug your power connector into your vehicle and the insertion point.
C. The station will display a message indicating the vehicle is charging.
D. To complete the charge, unplug the power connector from the insertion point and then the vehicle.

Level II with 7.2 kW output (power cord will be provided):
A. Remove the charging station’s connector by pressing down on the button at the top of the handle while pulling the connector from the holster.
B. Plug the connector into your electric vehicle.
C. The station will display a message indicating the vehicle is charging.
D. To complete the charge, return the connector to the station’s holster by pressing down on the button at the top of the handle while pulling the connector from the vehicle.
