PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

MTA Transit Subsidy

All Towson University faculty and staff are eligible to receive a $25 discount on monthly passes for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus, light rail and subway, as well as the MARC Train. Faculty and Staff are also eligible to purchase transit passes with a pre-tax payroll deduction.  Individuals can register for the transit subsidy by submitting a completed Alternative Transportation application form to the Parking and Transportation Services Office.

Individuals who carpool or use public transportation to get to Towson University will not only reap financial savings and contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, but they will also enjoy additional on-campus benefits. These individuals will be eligible to register for the guaranteed ride home, which provides free transportation when you are stuck at work during an emergency, and the alternative transportationparking pass, which provides four free parking passes each semester to individuals who use alternative transportation. An application must be submitted each academic year to continue in the program.

How It Works

To participate, submit the Alternative Transportation application to Parking & Transportations Services. The discounted transit pass can be purchased directly at the Auxiliary Services Business Office (ASBO).

To take advantage of the  payroll deduciton pre-tax benefit, submit the Alternative Transportation Application to Parking and Transportation Services and submit a payroll deduction card to the ASBO.  Bus Passes will be sold based on a September through August calendar year, and each monthly pass will be paid for one month in advance through payroll deduction. Note that participation in the program is required through the end of the fiscal year. If it becomes necessary to stop the payroll deduction, a request must be submitted to ASBO one month in advance. No refund will be issued for deductions that have been processed, and passes that are not picked up from the Business Office will not be refunded.

To receive the transit subsidy for the MARC train monthly passes, you must purchase the pass and then submit a receipt for the purchase along with a completed reimbursement form to Parking and Transportation Services. Requests for each month within a fiscal year should be submitted no later than June 1 of that year.
