Parking Information

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, the primary concern is the safety of the campus community.

It may be necessary to close parking areas to enable our snow removal equipment to access surface lots and garage roofs. The campus community can assist with these efforts by following the guidelines indicated below.

- Do not enter areas that are closed. This includes areas where the gate is closed or lots that are barricaded, sectioned off with cones or have closed signs displayed.

- If your vehicle is parked on the roof of a garage, please move it to a lower covered level.

- Don’t park in core campus surface lots until they have been cleared. Please use the covered levels in the garages.

- Follow the direction of posted signs and/or Parking Services staff.

Detailed Parking Information For Specific Campus Groups

Permits

Vehicles parked on campus must display a valid permit or be parked at a paid meter from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. Permits are not required in most locations from 3 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday or when the university is officially closed for a holiday or inclement weather.

Overnight Parking

To ensure ample commuter parking during the week, overnight parking is prohibited on the core campus Monday through Thursday. The only exception is for individuals who are parked in a resident lot with the appropriate permit.  Those wishing to park overnight during the week may use West Village Garage Visitor area or Towson Center lots 13, 14, 19, or 21.

Overnight parking is permitted in commuter and faculty/staff lots on weekends (after 3 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday).

Parking Lot Designations and Reserved Spaces

Reserved spaces and restricted lots are enforced at all times. Information about lot restrictions is posted at lots and reserved spaces. The posted information takes priority over printed information and the use of gates.

During peak periods (Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), convenient parking on the core campus may be limited.  During this time, students who have valid on campus permits are encouraged to proceed directly to the Overflow parking areas at the Towson Center/Stadium (lots 13, 14, 19, and 21) and in the West Village Garage (part of level 2, all of level 3).  Shuttle service is available between the Overflow areas and the core campus.

The spaces in front of the childcare center are dedicated to the Childcare center drop off and picking up of children. In order to park there, the vehicle must display the Pick Up/Drop Off Lot 21 permit and be in the space for 15 minutes or less.

Enforcement

To ensure the availability of safe parking and the efficient use of the parking resources, regulations are enforced year round. The university has been granted the authority under the Maryland Uniform Citation Code to issue citations on the campus. University citations carry the weight and importance of citations issued by any law enforcement agency in the state of Maryland. Individuals who have outstanding citations may be subject to university sanctions, referral to the State Central Collections Unit (CCU) or administrative holds and fees with the Motor Vehicle Administration.
