The foremost goal of the Chemical Safety programs is to prevent and/or minimize occupational and environmental exposure from chemical (hazardous materials) usage in campus facilities. To achieve this, EHS provides information to faculty and staff pertaining to chemical storage and container labeling requirements; compressed gas cylinder use; laboratory safety; hazardous waste disposal and minimization procedures; freon recovery (CFC); mercury thermometer exchange; and PCB light ballast disposal and fluorescent light tubes and battery recycling procedures. Program areas include Hazardous Waste Management and Chemical Hygiene.
