Bulk Mail Design

DEPARTMENTAL BULK MAIL /MAIL DESIGN

Bulk mail is the traditional term used by the US Postal Service to describe mail that is at least 200 pieces or 50 lbs weight of the same type of mail. It is now known as Standard Mail. To obtain the low cost afforded by this class of mail, the mailer must present the mailing properly documented and packaged. You can participate in this process or for very competitive fees we can do it for you. No matter what your choice is, please remember the following:

  • The mailing must contain the Towson University non-profit Indicia or you must stamp the mail with the Indicia.
  • Design & Pub can assist you with envelope design & Print Services can help you with your printing needs.
  • Envelopes must be sealed.
  • Address must be typed or computer generated in ascending zip code order (21201, 21202, 21203, etc.)
  • Boxed or trayed (No bags)
  • Make sure that Towson University appears in the return address area.
  • Remember to pull out those university box numbers and addresses. We can deliver them for you at no postage cost.
  • Check for duplicate and bad addresses.
  • A properly completed postal form 3602N must accompany every mailing and send a copy to the Bulk Mail office.

Our fees are the lowest you will find and our charging system is very easy to understand. Other than the flat fees indicated, we have two processing category charges:  1) automated letters; and 2) flats and nonmachinable letters.  Qualified automated letters must weigh less than 3.3 oz., have a minimum dimension of 3.5" by 5", a maximum dimension of 6.125" by 11.5", with a maximum thickness of .25" while meeting all other USPS requirements.  Qualified flats and nonmachinable letters can weigh more than 3.3 oz. and /or exceed the letter size maximum dimensions and thickness.  The fee for category 1 processing is .04 cents per piece for the initial handling of your mail and .01 cent per piece for any additional handling.   The fee for category 2 charges is .05 cents per piece for the initial handling and .02 cents per piece for any additional handling.  Most jobs require at least two handlings of the mail; sorting and addressing or labeling.  As an example, consider two handlings:  A 1000 piece category 1 mailing would cost about $50.00 excluding pickup, delivery and any set-up charges.  A category 2 mailing would cost about $70.00 excluding pickup, delivery and any set-up charges.

Departments will be back charged through the FRS system.
