The Towson University Police Department is dedicated to stopping crime before it happens. Our officers strive to keep the campus community informed and educated about potential safety concerns and crime prevention techniques. We conduct a number of programs that empower students, faculty and staff members with the appropriate skills and knowledge to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Rape and Aggression Defense (RAD) Courses
Free rape and aggression defense courses are offered to female students, faculty and staff on campus each semester. RAD promotes crime awareness and prevention while teaching valuable techniques for reducing one’s risk of becoming a victim of crime. Taught by certified RAD instructors, the four-week course offers hands-on training in easy and effective self-defense tactics. Check the daily digest or call the TUPD for information about the date and registration of the next RAD course.
Operation ID
Operation ID aims to maintain the safety of student, faculty and staff members’ private property by engraving valuables with identification information that increase your chances of recovery in the event of theft. The TUPD provides the campus community with access to engravers so that unique identifying numbers (such as a driver’s license number) can be engraved on your valuables. Following engraving, the TUPD recommends photographing your valuable and documenting it along with important information such as serial numbers to provide you with the necessary information to arm police in the case of theft.
To learn more about Operation ID or borrow an engraver, contact the TUPD Community Crime Reduction Office at 410-704-5622.
Operation KeepSafe
Operation KeepSafe is a crime prevention and emergency preparedness program whereby the TUPD conducts individual safety presentations to student and faculty/staff groups. The presentation provides information about the crime prevention and safety services available to the campus community and offers insight on how to best prepare for, and respond to, various types of emergencies on campus. By keeping faculty, staff and students armed with the knowledge of how to react in emergency situations such as hurricanes, active shooters and burglary, Operation KeepSafe aims to increase personal safety awareness across campus.
To schedule an Operation KeepSafe presentation for your group, call the Community Crime Reduction Unit at 410-704-5622.
