Go Green

Campus GroupsCampus Clean Up

Students, faculty and staff members are actively engaged in environmental initiatives, both independently and in the groups listed below. There are three SGA-recognized student organizations on campus specifically dedicated to environmental causes and several more that champion environmental issues. Together they host a range of activities dedicated to promoting environmental awareness, reducing energy consumption and increasing the recycling rate. Their continued passion for environmental initiatives has helped lead environmental initiatives at the university.

Students for Environmental Awareness

Students for Environmental Awareness (SEA) is an organization dedicated to promoting environmental awareness on campus and in the community by developing environmental projects and taking action in environmental events. The organization develops and participates in local clean-ups, recycling initiatives, promoting the presence of organic and vegan/vegetarian foods in campus dining halls and other environmental campaigns on campus.

SGA

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the representative governing body of undergraduate students authorized by the administration of the university. Working jointly with students, faculty, staff and administration, the SGA is dedicated to improving students’ academic, social and cultural environments and encourages students to take part in environmental initiatives.

Towson Energy Activists/Conservationists

The Towson Energy Activists (TEA) group is dedicated to eliminating Towson University's contribution to global warming and making the campus a model for sustainability. TEA does this by working with the administration to implement clean and renewable energy and conservation policies. TEA also participates in the Campus Climate Challenge.

The organization recently won the video portion of the Campus Climate Challenge’s “Chill Out” program.

University Residence Government

The group represents the resident student population, hosts a variety of activities for student residents and promots student resident concerns. The URG office is located in Glen Complex Tower C.

Video Activism Organization

The Video Activism Organization fosters and promotes awareness of video activism, using video for advocacy and a tool for social change. The organization aims to support and encourage interest in video activism as a genre for productions; create a vibrant community forum of media producers and consumers from diverse backgrounds with the common interest of video activism; host screenings of video activism features and short films; and host video activism lectures, panel discussions and events.

Environmental Science and Studies Program

The Environmental Science and Studies Programs are perfect for students who are concerned about the environment and want to make a difference. Courses studied within the programs prepare graduates for various entry-level environmental positions in the public, private and nonprofit sectors and is excellent preparation for advanced study as well. The programs draw extensively from faculty across all university concentrations, offering a well-rounded education that enables students to meet the challenges of planning, regulation, policy, and informal environmental education that are present in post-graduation positions.
