Keeping Campus Clean

Maintaining a clean, safe, pretty and happy campus is a point of pride for Towson University. The 328 acres of wooded land and rolling hills on campus give students, faculty and staff members a peaceful place to live, work, and learn, and we are dedicated to keeping the natural beauty of their environment clean and intact.

Maintaining the appearance of the university’s sprawling hills is not an easy task, given the sheer vastness of the land. But the university has dedicated itself to maintaining a beautiful and litter-free campus, and we challenge you to do the same. Reduce, recycle, and reuse as much as possible to lower the amount of waste you create, and dispose of trash in proper containers. Discard your cigarette butts in ashtrays – not on the ground. Pick up litter on campus. Every day, make one small gesture to keep your campus litter-free. Your contribution to the university will be appreciated more than you can imagine.

Towson employs a full-time staff of seven individuals who work over 14,000 hours annually to keep high-traffic outdoor areas neat and litter-free.

Together with the housekeeping and dining services staff, they collect and dispose of over 5,000 tons of waste each year.

That’s enough to fill up the statue of liberty 20 times!
