In fiscal year 2009 (July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010), transportation comprised approximately 45% of the university's carbon footprint. Transportation is a key component of reducing the carbon footprint and making the campus more sustainable. To that end, we encourage all students, faculty and staff to consider alternative transportation methods such as public transportation, carpooling, and walking or biking whenever possible. We also offer a variety of incentives to promote alternative transportation, including public transportation subsidies, free shuttle service to more than 25 local apartment complexes and communities, and guaranteed rides home for individuals participating in our alternative transportation program.
