RecycleMania

From February 3 to April 5, Towson University is competing in Recyclemania, a national competition among colleges and universities to recycle and reduce waste. In 2012 we placed 164th out of 275 schools in the national competition by recycling 24 percent of our waste. However, University of Maryland-College Park beat us with a 35 percent recycling rate. Let’s beat them this year! This year we will also be running a campus competition between the Residence Halls. The residence with the most recycling per student will win a cash prize for its house fund in an amount equal to the number of students living there! The results for each week will be posted on Fridays beginning February 15 on this webpage.

Interdorm Competition

Due to Towson's lease arrangements, Towson is unable to get weekly recycling totals from Millenium Hall, Paca House, and Tubman house. These buildings are not owned by Towson University and their trash and recycling are picked up by a different contractor. However, these houses will receive all Recyclemania promotions and their contributions are added to the all campus competition.

Interested in helping Towson recycle? We are now looking for volunteers to help promote recycling. If you are part of a student group, consider getting your whole group involved. Recyclemania is the fun way to make a difference right here at Towson. Please contact Sustainability Manager Clara Fang at cfang@towson.edu for more information.

Results from all schools are available on the RecycleMania Website.

For ten weeks each spring, Towson University tracks and submits weekly recycling and refuse statistics as part of the national RecycleMania competition. Towson's results for the 2008, 2009 2010, 2011 competitions are listed below.
