
Qualifying Events for Changes to Group Insurance Benefits
Changes to group insurance coverage after initial enrollment or outside of the annual Open Enrollment period are allowed only due to changes in family status referred to as qualifying events. Examples are the birth or adoption of a child, loss of a dependent, marriage, change in the work status of a spouse, divorce, death of spouse or other dependent, termination of spouse’s employment which results in loss of coverage or loss of coverage under another program. Employees should notify the Benefits Unit immediately when any such qualifying event occurs. Requests for changes must be submitted within 60 days of the qualifying event along with all required documentation.
