Maryland Charities Campaign
The Maryland Charity Campaign (MCC) is an annual workplace charitable-giving program that offers state employees the opportunity to contribute to charity using the convenience of payroll deduction. Currently, over 700 charities participate in the campaign.
An Executive Order signed by the Governor dictates how the MCC is to be handled. The campaign is administered by the Office of the Secretary of State, which reviews and approves the application submitted by charities wishing to receive funds from the MCC; approves the operating budget of the campaign, and monitors the Operating Agency that is responsible for campaign management. The United Way of Central Maryland serves as the Operating Agency.
Contributions to the MCC can be designated directly to the charity of choice among the 700 + participants. Undesignated donations are distributed proportionately to all of the charities. All collected donations less administrative costs (8.9% in 2002) are fully paid to the charities. The Campaign is usually held in the fall of each year.
