Inclement Weather and Emergency Conditions
In emergency situations such as extreme weather conditions, the campus may be closed or opened late. In such cases, announcements will be posted on the campus voice mail system (410-704-2000, 410-704-NEWS) and campus web site (www.towson.edu) plus an “all campus” email will be sent. The Senior Vice President and CFO will make a decision before 6 a.m. to close campus or delay classes. Local radio and television stations will be notified in the event of a closing or delay. These stations include:
- In the Baltimore area: WBAL Radio 11 (1090 AM/97.9 FM), WCAO/WXYV (600 AM/103 FM), WLIF (101.9 FM), WBAL-TV (11), WJZ-TV (13) and WMAR-TV (2)
- In the Washington, D.C. area: WTOP (1500 AM/107.7 FM), WMZQ (98.7 FM) and WRC-TV (4)
- In addition, the Associated Press (AP) wire service disseminates the information to other stations.
Regardless of campus closing, emergency essential personnel are required to report for work. Emergency essential personnel are employees who have been designated as vital to the operation of the facility, whose presence is required regardless of the existence of an emergency, and whose absence from duty could endanger the safety and well being of the campus population and/or physical plant. Individuals who are unsure of their status should check with their supervisors to determine if they are emergency essential employees.
The presence of individuals on campus other than emergency essential personnel requires the approval of the appropriate Vice President.
If the campus is closed or business is delayed, administrative leave may be available to employees. Liberal leave may be granted to non-emergency essential employees when the University cancels classes with the campus remaining open and/or delays the official opening of the University due to emergency conditions.
