- web page (on Microsoft Windows-based servers)

- individual network file storage space (H: drive) and departmental shared network file storage      space (O: drive)

- access to Towson Online Services (information system)

- benefits of belonging to the TowsonU domain

Use the links to the left to learn more about accounts and e-mail access.

Policy

Faculty and staff are expected to abide by the University Guidelines for Responsible Computing when using their computing account.

Microsoft Outlook and Other E-mail Applications

Microsoft Outlook is the default email application used on campus by faculty and staff to manage email, shared calendars and public folders.

Faculty and staff using Windows computers are encouraged to use Microsoft Outlook when on campus, and either Citrix or Outlook Web Access when off campus. On-campus computers should have Outlook already configured. When OTS sets up a new computer, Outlook is configured to automatically connect to our Microsoft Exchange Server.

Those who wish to use Netscape Mail can click below for instructions on configuring Netscape to connect to the Exchange server.

Faculty and staff also have a default quota on the email system, so it is important to manage email messages and attachments carefully.

Training sessions for using Outlook's many features are available through OTS Training.

Student Employee Accounts

Student employees currently employed at Towson University can receive additional computing access to facilitate interaction with faculty and staff.

Student employees receive all of the benefits of regular student computing accounts, plus student employee supervisors can request any of the following for student staff:

  • email and shared calendering on Microsoft Exchange Server)
  • access to a limited area of a departmental shared network file storage space ("O" drive)
  • access to specific group Web areas (for Web sites with a group of administrators)

It's important for student employees to understand that if they receive an Exchange email account, new email will be delivered to two locations and it may be necessary to set up forwarding.

Student employees are expected to abide by the University Guidelines for Responsible Computing.

Student employees should contact their supervisor if they feel they need any of the above access. Supervisors can contact the OTS Help Center to request the access.

It is also important for student employees to understand that email could potentially be delivered to either their Tiger or their Exchange mailboxes. It is possible to forward Tiger email to the Exchange email address using OpenWebmail's forwarding preferences. Student employees would forward all incoming Tiger email to username@exchange.towson.edu where username is the username of the student employee.

Training sessions for using Outlook's many features are available through OTS Training.
