App Store and it is difficult to
decide which app is the right app.
The following categorized list will
outline those apps that have proven
to be the most popular on campus. If

Citrix Receiver:
This app is the approved app for accessing the Virtual Workspace and for
connecting to your computer remotely both on and off campus. The app
requires an initial setup. Setup instructions are available for download
here.
WebEx:
This app is a similar format to the webex desktop app. A participant can
only attend webex meeting center events, and cannot share their iPad screen,
however they can see a shared screen of the host participant. The app was
recently updated to fix an audio issue with both talking and listening at
the same time however it is recommended that a set of headphones with built
in microphone be used.
JoinMe:
This app enables you to view someone else's computer screen with their
permission. Your colleague or friend goes to join.me on a PC or Mac and
elects to share their screen. A 9-digit code is provided. You enter the code
on the iPad and are able to view another computer. Note: the person does not
need Administrative privilidges to run the app. Also note that you can only
view another computer using this iPad app. You cannot control another
screen. The purpose is for troubleshooting a problem while on the phone with
the person.
Numbers:
Exclusively designed for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, Numbers lets you
make compelling spreadsheets in minutes - with tables, charts, photos, and
graphics - using just your fingers. Has the ability to edit and view
Microsoft Excel, Numbers 09, and CSV files
Keynote:
Presentation software for the iPad. Allows the user to create a presentation
on the go with the iPad; complete with animated charts and transitions. Has
the ability to view and edit Keynote 09 and Microsoft PowerPoint
presentations.
Pages:
Word processor for the iPad. Allows the user to create, edit, and view
documents on the go. Has the ability to view and edit Pages 09, Microsoft
Word, and plain text files
Lynda.com:
The Lynda.com app provides access to just-in-time training videos that teach
on a number of popular computer topics. Towson University maintains an
account with Lynda.com and provides temporary access to Faculty and Staff.

Blackboard Mobile:
Allows students to view Blackboard course information from their iPad. App
supports discussion board posts, viewing of grades, viewing of assignments,
etc. Faculty can post video, create discussion board posts and view rosters.
This app ties into Blackboard at Towson University. You will need a
Blackboard account to use.
Evernote Peek:
Evernote Peek is a flashcard style study application that uses the
iPad 2 smartcover. Peel up the first segment of the cover to read your
question, then remove the rest of the cover to see the answer. Evernote Peek
works as a standalone app or in conjunction with an Evernote account for
customized study guides.
Inkling:
Inkling is a platform for interactive textbooks, built from the ground up
for iPad. It turns paper-based textbooks into engaging, interactive learning
experiences while staying compatible with the print book for classroom use.
Star Walk
Star Walk is an application that allows you to point your iPad at the
sky and see what stars, constellations, and even artificial satellites you
are looking at in realtime. An excellent tool for the backyard
astronomer.
Solar Walk
This 3D Solar System model enables you to navigate through space and time,
observe all the planets in close-up, learn their trajectories, inner
structure, history of their exploration, points of interest and more. Use 3D
mode to get a more realistic experience and zoom out to view and spin the
entire Galaxy!
3D4Medical:
This app has been designed specifically for the iPad to Free showcase the
high quality images developed by 3D4medical.com. It contains over 200
medical images that can be displayed for presentation purposes, saved as
wallpaper, or shared with friends or colleagues.
WebMD:
Allows you to check symptoms, access
treatment Free information, get first aid
essentials, and check local health listings
on the iPad.
CNN:
App allows you to watch live CNN TV programming, Free read in-‐depth
feature stories, and share stories on your favorite social media platform.
FlipBoard:
Converts your social media news into a
magazine format for reading on the iPad.
Flipboard also includes online articles from
many prominent publications like The New
Yorker, Wired, Forbes, National Geographic,
and more. Apple’s iPad app of the year in
2010.
Evernote:
This is a cloud based note taking/note keeping app that allows you to create
a note on the iPad and view it on any number of cross platform devices such
as a Mac, PC or iPhone. Notes are kept in sync across all devices and are
fully searchable, even content inside of a PDF and images such as business
cards. The free version of the app allows for plenty of space and can house
all different file types. The premium version of the app allows for
unlimited space and shared notebooks which become helpful in collaborative
situations.
ToodleDo:
ToodleDo is a task management app that can be used for either simple task
application or full GTD (Getting things Done). ToodleDo comes with a web
based interface for standalone use that sync with the iPad. There is an
iPhone version as well for true accessibility across platforms.
ShowMe:
A universal app that provides a whiteboard surface. Easy to use tool to
demonstrate visually a concept. What sets ShowMe apart from other apps is
the free connection and recording options to the ShowMe website. You can
record a whiteboard session and send it to the web to use again and again.
HipMunk Flight Search:
Hipmunk takes the agony out of flight search. With Hipmunk you'll see all
the relevant flights on a timeline, helping you visualize the right choice.
Unlike every other app out there, Hipmunk doesn't just show you the cheapest
flight first — the app instead sorts by "agony," which incorporates
important factors like how long you'll be traveling and how many stops
you'll make. Hipmunk also makes booking easy. When you've found the right
flight, you can either book it on your phone, email it to someone else, or
finish on your desktop computer.
DropBox:
A universal app that takes the place of a USB drive. Launch
Dropbox on the web and add a file from your Documents folder,
the file will appear in the Dropbox app on the iPad. Dropbox
also offers a desktop client for both Mac and PC.
Dragon Dictation:
Dragon Dictation is an easy-to-use voice recognition application powered by
Dragon® NaturallySpeaking® that allows you to easily speak and instantly see
your text or email messages. In fact, it’s up to five (5) times faster than
typing on the keyboard.
