Configuring your iPhone and iPad to Receive Towson Email

Please remember that Smart Phones download university email along with attachments that may contain sensitive information. OTS recommends you not store sensitive data on these devices, and that you increase the security of your device by using a password on your device.  Check your manual, or see your cellular service provider for assistance setting up a password.

1.  From the home screen of the iPhone, click on Settings.

 

2.  Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

 

3.  Select Add Account.

 

4.  Select Microsoft Exchange.

 

5.  Fill in the following information:

E-mail:  Enter your email address

Username:  towson.edu\YourNetID

(To get the correct slash "\" you click the .?123 and click the #+= to get to the keyboard that contains the backslash.)

Password: Enter your NetID password

 

6. Click Next and Continue if prompted.

 

7. Type outlook.towson.edu in the Server field.

 

8.  You are then given the option of choosing what you would like to sync with Exchange:  Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. Keep in mind that you can have multiple e-mail accounts on the iPhone simultaneously, but you can only have one set of Contacts and only one Calendar.

Click Save to save your changes.  Your mail will automatically download.

 

*Note: If you are experiencing issues with poor battery life, try adjusting the following settings:

1. Head back into the Settings.
2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
3. Select Fetch New Data.


4. From there we recommend that you turn off Push and select a Fetch setting that best suits your needs.

**Manual Fetch only grabs new e-mails and new calendar adjustments when you open the app.


If you have more than one account tied to your smartphone you can also set the Push/Fetch settings for each individual account.


5. Click Advanced.

 


6. Choose the account that you want to manage

7. Repeat step 4.
