Accessibility: General Guidelines
The following guidelines will help you
create a website that is compliant with
Section 508 Guidelines regarding
accessibility and readability.
Accessibility: Alt Tags on Images
Adding an alternative text (ALT Text)
description to an image ensures that the
image can be read by screen reader software
to people with visual disabilities. In this
self-help document, you will learn how to
add ALT text to images in Adobe Contribute.
Accessibility: Making Tables Accessible
Data contained within a table is difficult
for screen reader software to interpret and
read. Without accessibility modifications,
the screen reader software can misinterpret
the contents of a table. In this self-help
document, you will learn how to make a table
accessible.
Accessibility: Interpreting your
Accessibility Report
Accessibility has become an increasingly
important topic in web design and
development. An enormous effort has been
made into making the Towson website
accessible and compliant with Section 508 of
the US Rehabilitation Act which means it is
easily usable for people with varying
disabilities, including visual, hearing and
motor impairment. Bi-Monthly accessibility
reports are run on the entire website to
help identify areas that are not in
compliance. In this self-help document, you
will learn how to interpret the
accessibility report and begin the process
of bringing your department website into
Section 508 compliance.
Accessibility: Creating 508 Standards
Compliant PDF's
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
requires that federal agencies’ electronic
and information technology be accessible to
people with disabilities. Towson University
is committed to aligning documentation to
the same standards set for the Federal
Government. In this self-help document, you
will learn how to take an existing document
(Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.) and make it
compliant.
