Obtaining a WebEx Account

To conduct a WebEx session, you will need a host account. There are two types of accounts available: OTS-Sponsored Accounts for faculty or WebEx Chargeback Accounts.

OTS-Sponsored Accounts

OTS-Sponsored Accounts for faculty are used for instructional and research purposes. Each college receives seven host accounts to be assigned to faculty selected by the associate dean of the college. Faculty members wishing to obtain one of the limited OTS-sponsored faculty accounts should inform their college assistant dean via email. With approval of the assistant dean, an account will be created and training will be provided to the requesting faculty member. All standard charges are covered by OTS, and any overages are charged to the respective college. Accounts include a monthly VOIP* allowance of 25,000 minutes which renews at the beginning of each month. This account does not include telephone conferencing.  If you wish to use telecommunications capabilities, additional charges will be applied to your account.

WebEx Chargeback Accounts

Any department, staff or faculty (not assigned an OTS-sponsored account) wishing to host WebEx meetings will need to obtain a WebEx account. To obtain a WebEx account, faculty, staff or departments should complete the WebEx Account Request Form and submit it to WebEx@towson.edu. Charges will be applied to the PeopleSoft Budget department ID provided via the submission form.

Account holders or the responsible office/department will be charged for usage of the WebEx account at the conclusion of the semester.  Information regarding applicable charges will be forwarded to the requester, and WebEx accounts will be created within two business days.

Accounts include a monthly VOIP* allowance of 25,000 minutes, which renews at the beginning of each month, and unlimited usage. If you wish to use telecommunications capabilities, additional charges will be applied to your account.

*VOIP - VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol – this turns your voice into digital data that can be transmitted over the internet. When using VOIP to communicate, you will use a microphone to talk and speakers to listen to others Webex session attendees.
