Eco-Reps: Peer Environmental Education Program

Eco-Reps are a team of peer-educators committed to building a sustainable future. The Eco-Reps work with the Office of Civic Engagement & Leadership and the Office of Sustainability.

Eco-Reps plan events with sustainability themes in their residence hall, promote sustainability initiatives across campus, and connect their peers to environmental student groups, staff and faculty. Eco-Reps have the opportunity take part in workshops, field trips, and leadership training that prepare them for sustainability careers in the future.

Responsibilities

Eco-Reps will devote 3-4 hours a week to:

  • Attend weekly Eco-Rep meetings

    • Guest speakers

    • Workshops and leadership training

    • Working in project teams

  • Work in teams on year-long projects with tangible, meaningful results in the following areas:

    • Waste & Recycling

    • Sustainable Energy

    • Alternative Transportation

    • Water Conservation & Management

  • Help plan and run campus-wide events

    • Campus Sustainability Day

    • Recyclemania

    • Energy Conservation Contest

    • Envirofest

  • Present to student groups, classes, and other campus audiences on how to "go green" on campus

  • Collaborate with President's Climate Commitment (PCC) committee members to reduce our carbon footprint

  • Engage fellow students on sustainability topics through creative events, activities, and social media posts

Do It in the Dark Competition

Sign the Do it in the Dark Competition Pledge and help your Residence Hall win the Energy Conservation Contest! The Residence Hall that reduces its energy consumption the most per student wins a cash prize of $100-$500 towards their Residence Hall budget. Keep track of progress every Wednesday through our Facebook page, blog, and through the ecoscreen (in the lobby of the Union, West Village Commons, Smith Hall and Center for the Arts).


Recyclemania

Every spring, Towson University competes for 8 weeks against colleges across the nation to reduce waste and increase recycling. Find out about fun activities, events, and prizes throughout the competition by following us on Facebook, and join in our transformative efforts to waste less!

Sustainability Film Series

The Office of Sustainability will be showing a series of recent critically acclaimed documentaries covering important sustainability issues during Fall 2014-Spring 2015.
