Eco-reps are a team of peer-educators committed to bringing sustainability into their own lives and their communities. Working in conjunction with the Office of Sustainability, Eco-reps plan events with sustainability themes in their residence hall, promote sustainability initiatives across campus, and connect their peers to environmental student groups, staff and faculty. Eco-reps have the opportunity take part in workshops, field trips, and the film series.
Responsibilities
Eco-reps devote 1-2 hours a week to the following activities:
Attend monthly eco-rep meetings
Attend a Building Council meeting and/or URG General Assembly meeting each month
Be team leaders for the residence hall (or TU community) for the Recyclemania and Energy Conservation Contests
Post flyers, facebook messages, send email reminders, and make announcements to promote sustainability events and activities
Help with events where volunteers are needed
Advise students on how to get involved in sustainability on campus, including connecting students with environmental student groups, staff and faculty
Conduct personal actions to integrate sustainability into your own life
The main activity of the Eco-Rep program is to carry out a Sustainability Campaign during the academic year to help engage students in sustainability behaviors and activities. The campaign will have a different theme for each month and activities and tools to help students learn about sustainability issues and take action in their personal lives. Sustainability Film Series
The Office of Sustainability will be showing a series of recent critically acclaimed documentaries related to the themes of the sustainability campaign. during Fall 2013-Spring 2014. Download the poster and viewing schedule.
Apply
It's easy becoming an eco-rep! Simply send your name, class year, Residence Hall/address, and a one paragraph statement explaining your interest to gogreen@towson.edu. Two eco-reps will be selected from each Residence Hall and up to ten ecoreps who live off-campus will be selected. Freshmen are encouranged to apply! Those who apply early are more likely to be selected. The deadline to apply is September 12, 2013.
