Eco-Reps: Peer Environmental Education Program

Eco-reps are a team of peer-educators committed to bringing sustainability into their own lives and their communities. Working in conjunction with the Office of Civic Engagement and the Office of Sustainability, Eco-reps plan events with sustainability themes in their residence hall, promote sustainability initiatives across campus, and connect their peers to environmental student groups, staff and faculty. Eco-reps have the opportunity take part in workshops, field trips, and the film series.

Do It in the Dark

Sign the pledge to 'do it in the dark' and help your Residence Hall win the Energy Conservation Contest! The house that reduces its energy consumption the most per student wins a cash prize of $100-$500 towards their house fund. Keep track of progress every Wednesday through our Facebook page, blog, and through the ecoscreen (in the lobby of the Union, West Village Commons, Smith Hall and Center for the Arts).

Eco-reps devote 1-2 hours a week to the following activities:

  • Attend monthly eco-rep meetings
  • Attend a Building Council meeting and/or URG General Assembly meeting each month
  • Be team leaders for the residence hall (or TU community) for the Recyclemania and Energy Conservation Contests
  • Post flyers, facebook messages, send email reminders, and make announcements to promote sustainability events and activities
  • Help with events where volunteers are needed
  • Advise students on how to get involved in sustainability on campus, including connecting students with environmental student groups, staff and faculty
  • Conduct personal actions to integrate sustainability into your own life

Sustainability Campaign

The main activity of the Eco-Rep program is to carry out a Sustainability Campaign during the academic year to help engage students in sustainable behaviors and activities. The campaign will have a different theme for each month and activities and tools to help students learn about sustainability issues and take action in their personal lives.

Sustainability Film Series

The Office of Sustainability will be showing a series of recent critically acclaimed documentaries related to the themes of the Sustainability Campaign during Fall 2014-Spring 2015.
