Alumni Association Scholarship Award
Scholarship deadline: May 1
The purpose of the Alumni Association Scholarship Award is to recognize, encourage and reward undergraduate students who demonstrate the highest levels of intellectual and personal achievement and have the potential to become active alumni who will support the university and contribute to
their communities.
Two scholarships of $1000.00 will be awarded annually.
The chosen scholarship or grant recipient MUST appear at the recognition banquet to receive the award. Failure to attend could jeopardize future scholarship opportunities. The 2012 Awards Recognition Banquet is tentatively scheduled for 10/19/12 or 10/26/12.
Incoming freshman, current Towson
University undergraduate students, and transfer students are
eligible to apply. Students may apply for this
scholarship each year they are enrolled at Towson
University, as long as they meet the scholarship criteria
for undergraduate students.
The following requirements must be met to be eligible for the scholarship:
Current Towson University students must have a
cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 on a four-point scale and must be enrolled full-time at Towson University for the upcoming
term. Along with the completed application form, applications must include:
- A resume detailing extracurricular activities, community service
and employment
- An official college transcript
(must be received by the Alumni Office in a sealed envelope)
- A letter of recommendation from a Towson
University faculty member
on letterhead or from their Towson University e-mail account.
- A one-page essay on the topic: "How has your education and community service experience helped you to better serve the community?"
Incoming transfer students must have a
cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 on a four-point scale from their previous college and must be enrolled full-time at Towson University for the upcoming
term. Along with the completed application form, applications must include:
- A resume detailing extracurricular activities, community service
and employment
- An official college transcript
(must be received by the Alumni Office in a sealed envelope)
- A letter of recommendation from a faculty member of
applicant's transfer college on letterhead or from their university e-mail account.
- A one-page essay on the topic: "How has your education and community service experience helped you to better serve the community?"
Incoming freshman candidates must have a cumulative
GPA of 3.50 or higher from grades 9 through 12 and/or a combined SAT score of 1500 or better (on all three parts of the SAT) and must be enrolled full-time at Towson University for the upcoming
term. Along with the completed application form, applications must include:
- A resume detailing extracurricular activities, community service
and employment
- An official high school transcript
(must be received by the Alumni Office in a sealed envelope)
- A letter of recommendation from a high
school teacher, guidance counselor or member of the school
administration
on letterhead or from their school e-mail account.
- A one-page essay on the topic: "How has your education and community service experience helped you to better serve the community?"
Applications and Deadline
Applications must be fully completed
in order to be considered. All applications must be
neatly printed in black ink or typed, submitted in a sealed
envelope, and postmarked no later than May 1.

Selection Process
A scholarship committee appointed by the Alumni Association Board of Directors will select the recipients.
Award and Recognition
Recipients will be notified in June. The scholarship amount will be transferred directly into the recipient’s university account, with the exception of graduating
TU seniors.
Recipients will be asked to attend a recognition event in the fall. Announcements of awards, grants and scholarships may be placed in internal and external publications, shared with local and national media or given other recognition as suitable. Scholarship recipients may be called on by the Towson University Alumni Association to assist with programs and events during the academic year.
