The purpose of the Distinguished Scholar Award is to provide recognition for outstanding academic achievement at Towson University by the son or daughter of a Towson University alumna/us. Alumni status of the parent will be verified by the Office of Alumni Relations.
Past recipients of the Distinguished Scholar Award are ineligible to apply again.
The number and amount of scholarships vary
annually.
The selected recipient or a designee is expected to attend a recognition event in the fall.
The following requirements must be met to be eligible for the scholarship:
Applicants must be the son or daughter of a TU alumna/us. Applicants must be a full-time, undergraduate student with a cumulative
GPA of 3.50 or higher. Applicants must be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year at the start of next semester and have earned a minimum of 24 units by the end of the spring semester from Towson University.
Along with a completed application form, applications must include:
A resume detailing extra-curricular activities, community service and employment.
An official college transcript (must be received by the Alumni Office in a sealed envelope) .
A letter of recommendation from a Towson University faculty member on letterhead or from their Towson University e-mail account.
A typed essay of two pages on
the topic "How will your education and career preparation at
Towson University help you to serve as an active alumna/us?"
Applications and Deadline
Award applications must be fully
completed in order to be considered. All applications must
be neatly printed in black ink or typed, submitted in a sealed
envelope, and postmarked no later than May 1.
