The purpose of the Ronald L. Peterson Freshman Scholarship is to provide recognition for outstanding academic achievement by the son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a Towson University alumna/us entering Towson University from high school as a full-time baccalaureate degree candidate. Alumni status of the parent or grandparent will be verified by the Office of Alumni Relations.
Two scholarships for $1000.00 will be awarded annually.
The selected recipient or a designee is expected to attend a recognition event in the fall.
The following requirements must be met to be eligible for the scholarship:
The applicant must be a child or grandchild
of a Towson alumna/us. Applicants must be graduating high
school seniors who have been admitted to and plan to attend
Towson University the following fall as full-time degree
candidates. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50
or higher from grades 9 through 12 and/or a combined SAT score
of 1500 or better (on all three parts of the SAT) and/or a composite ACT score of 21 or better, and must be enrolled full-time at Towson University for the upcoming
term. Special consideration will be given for a student considering the study of education.
Along with the completed application form , applications must include:
A resume detailing extracurricular activities, community
service and employment.
An official high school transcript (this is a transcript that is received by the Alumni Office in a sealed envelope with a signature on the outside of the envelope).
An academic letter of recommendation from a faculty member, guidance counselor or administrator from the applicant’s
high school on letterhead or from their school e-mail account..
A non-academic letter of recommendation (e.g. employer, scoutmaster, pastor, rabbi).
A typed essay of at least 500 words on "Why I Chose Towson University".
Scholarship recipients may be called on by the Towson University Alumni Association to assist with programs and events during the academic year.
