TOWSON ADVOCACY PROGRAM (TAP)

Sample Letter and E-mail

The following letters are samples designed to give you ideas about how to correspond with members of the General Assembly during this crucial time.

Sample #1: Quality Higher Education at Risk

Dear Delegate [Senator] ____________:

I am a strong believer in the importance of higher education in the State of Maryland. Higher education represents the ladder of opportunity for residents and is an engine of economic development for the State. I credit my professional success to the preparation and experience I gathered during my time at Towson University.

Please represent the voices of your constituents by preventing further cuts to this important area of the state's budget.

Respectfully,
"Joe Alumnus"

Sample #2: Sample E-mail

TO:     The Honorable _____________

FROM:     [Your name]

SUBJECT:    Quality Higher Education at Risk

Dear Delegate [or Senator] _______________:

My name is ________ and I am a [grad year] graduate of Towson University. As a resident of District [insert number], I want to express to you my concern over cuts to public higher education. I am proud of my alma mater and believe that the value of my degree continues to improve because of the tremendous success of TU as a nationally recognized, comprehensive institution. However, this cannot continue without a commitment from state legislators. Please work to prevent further cuts to higher education. I appreciate the difficult situation you, as a legislator, are facing. But please know that this is important to me as your constituent.

Sincerely,
