Habitat for Humanity

Once a month, the Towson University chapter of Habitat for Humanity donates time to help with the construction of Baltimore area homes. The group has also provided relief across the country. Members have traveled to destinations including: Miami, FL; New Orleans, LA; and Laredo, TX. Last month, the Towson Habitat for Humanity made its first international trip to Guatemala. The group expands every year and gains support by holding events on the TU campus. This year, the group set an impressive fundraising goal of $10,000.00, in hopes of raising enough to sponsor their own home to build.

College Park and UMB merger study:

Chancellor Kirwan led a panel, before the Senate Budget & Taxation Committee, providing a detailed report of the six-month study examining the feasibility of a total merger. As reported in December, the Board of Regents rejected a merger, noting the disadvantages far outweighed the advantages. However, Chancellor Kirwan did outline the structure of a strategic alliance between UMCP and UMB that would serve as a roadmap to greater collaboration among all USM institutions. Further details of the UMCP and UMB strategic alliance are expected in March.
