The Forensic Science Student Organization:
The Forensic Science Student Organization (FSSO) has been giving TU students the opportunity to get real forensics experience since its start in the spring of 2010 when the group made a trip to Vermont and aided Vermont State Troopers in a search and recovery for the remains of a missing Maryland man. This expedition was a huge success for the students and the families involved, bringing closure to the family and field experience to the students in their undergraduate careers. The FSSO is comprised of and is not limited to students majoring in forensic chemistry, criminal justice, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and biology. Since then, the FSSO has held seminars and traveled to various locations such as the Maryland State Crime Lab and toured the Baltimore City detention center; here the group was awarded the opportunity to communicate with and meet various employees within the criminal justice system. In the future, the FSSO hopes to expand its organization on campus by encompassing students who have a common desire to thrive in forensics. The group also hopes to increase its community outreach with its man power and ability to help neighboring cities and states with investigations and missing persons cases. It is in the FSSO mission to not only help improve group member's technical skills as growing undergraduate students and future forensic scientists, but to also help improve and aid the community in as many ways possible.
