LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT! PLEASE SEE LEGISLATIVE BILLS SECTION!

TU Spotlight

The Senate Budget Committee proposed a $5 million cut to the USM budget, and this week, the House Appropriations Committee is proposing to cut nearly $20 million from the USM budget. While the Senate has previously adopted $5.3 million in general fund cuts to USM, the House is considering more significant and deeper cuts to the System: increasing the Senate general fund cuts to $11.6 million; and reducing the University System's fund balance by $7.775 million - an action not considered by the Senate.

We ask that you consider contacting your legislators and budget leaders to let them know how you feel about the proposed budget cuts. Reduced funding for USM will lead to an erosion of quality as well as affordable and accessible higher education in Maryland. Please see Legislative Bills section for contact instructions.
