The UB/Towson MBA Meets the Demand for MBA Degrees

There are 14 institutions in Maryland offering the master in business administration, up from nine institutions in 1996.

 

 

 

 

ACADEMIC PROGRAM DUPLICATION LEGISLATION GETS HEARING

 

On Wednesday, January 30th, Senate Bill 49-Maryland Higher Education Commission - Review of Duplicative Academic Programs was heard before the Senate Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee chaired by Senator Joan Carter Conway. SB 49 would allow a historically black institution to seek judicial review after the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) has made a determination as to whether or not an unnecessary duplication of programs exists.  The bill also includes language which would allow for the retroactive review of the UB/Towson MBA program which was approved by a 10-1 MHEC vote in November 2005.

 

Chairwoman Conway, as the chief sponsor of SB 49, opened the hearing and spoke in support of her bill. USM Regent and former MHEC Secretary, Pat Florestano, was joined by USM Chancellor Brit Kirwan to discuss the problem
