Message From the Provost Regarding Race and Ethnicity Changes
This message is from Dr. Marcia Welsh, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
In an effort to provide a more accurate picture of the nation’s diversity, the U. S. Department of Education has issued new standards for collecting and reporting race and ethnicity data.
As required, we will now collect racial and ethnic data from all students, faculty and staff in a two-question format. The first question is whether or not you are Hispanic/Latino and the second question asks you to select one or more races from five racial groups.
Students who are currently enrolled can now update and confirm the race and ethnicity information we have on file by doing the following: Log onto Towson Online Services and navigate to: Self Service>Student Center>Personal Information>Demographic Data. Then click the far right tab “Ethnicity” and review/update your information. If you make changes, be sure to hit the “Submit” button when you are finished.
Information regarding the resurveying of faculty and staff will be sent at a later date. Additional information and relevant materials about the transition to the new reporting categories can be found on the Office of Institutional Research website http://www.towson.edu/ir/ or the U. S. Department of Education website http://www.ed.gov/policy/rschstat/guid/raceethnicity/index.html.
