Towson University Daily Digest New Department of Public Safety Established in the Division of Administration and Finance

In response to the increasing demands on campus safety and emergency preparedness, the Division of Administration and Finance has established an Office of Public Safety, which will bring together business units responsible for the safety and security of Towson University’s campus.

The Office of Public Safety will oversee the Towson University Police Department, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, and a new unit, Security Access Control, which will be comprised of the Lock Shop and the Security Cameras/Electronic Access units. Police Chief Bernie Gerst will serve as Assistant Vice President of the department, using his many years of experience in community policing, campus safety and emergency preparedness to create synergies that can be leveraged for the good of the campus.
