April Wood
A Consuming Desire
March 14–April 12
Opening Reception: Thursday, March 13, 7:30–9 p.m. April Wood works in metals and organic materials. She
crafts artwork that speaks to issues of food consumption
and the rituals associated with eating in the age of
fast food, TV dinners and disposable silverware. Her
art suggests history references, sensuality and a direct
connection to the physicality of the human experience.
It stirs the senses, while probing the darker areas of
carnality, fetishism, control and gluttony |

Ellen Harper
History Lessons
Feb. 8–March 7
Opening Reception: Thursday, Feb. 7, 7:30–9 p.m.
MFA candidate Ellen Harper works in interdisciplinary
media. Her artwork encompasses a wide
variety of media such as drawing, sculpture, fashion
design, photography and performance to create
installations and specific environments which explore
the role of women and notions of beauty. Often
employing makeup as a drawing medium and referencing
corsetry and Victorian fashion in her clothing,
Harper draws from the past to question what it means
to be a woman in contemporary society. There will be
a performance at the reception. |

Josh Gillen
Construction
April 25–May 16
Opening Reception: Thursday, April 24, 7:30–9 p.m.
Josh Gillen builds structural objects or environments,
as well as creates animals and human forms. His work
integrates wood joints, resembling the living joints of
the knee or elbow, which Gillen uses to anthropomorphize
wooden objects. The structural elements suggest
his experience as a carpenter’s assistant and are meant
to feel like structures for human occupation or use.
