Towson's Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art
Education participates in a number of diverse partnerships with public and private organizations in the community. These include:
Arts Education in Maryland Schools Alliance (AEMS)
This program invites urban middle school students from Baltimore City to the Towson University campus, where they have the opportunity to explore the arts in a teaching and learning partnership with Elementary Education Majors enrolled in the Art Education, Art and the Child course. The program's primary goal is to break down stereotypes, learn about human commonality and difference, integrate theory with practice, and encourage the urban youth to gain a vision for continuing their education at the college level. The program, which includes approximately 45 youth (ages 10-13) and 50 university students per semester, began in 1994 under the direction of Dr. Kay Broadwater, Department of Art Partnerships Coordinator.
