Department of Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology and Deaf Studies
Graduate Programs
The department offers graduate programs in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Both programs are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
The Audiology program leads to the Au.D. or Doctor of Audiology, degree. Students take 3 years of classes combined with clinical practicum, then move to a full-time externship placement in the 4th year. A 5-year program is available for students who do not have an undergraduate degree in the major.
The Speech-Language Pathology program leads to the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology. Students take 2 years of classes combined with clinical practicum. A 3-year program is available for students who do not have an undergraduate degree in the major.
Our graduate programs focus on applying current research to daily clinical practice. Our strengths include:
- Ninety percent of courses are taught by full-time faculty who are available during class and after.
- Our suburban metropolitan location attracts a variety of patients for our on-campus speech, language and hearing clinic.
- The department offers state-of-the-art labs in audiology and speech-language pathology.
- Students are involved with faculty in applied clinical research in the areas of Parkinson's Disease, electrophysiology, pediatric stuttering, central auditory processing, international adoptions, hearing aids, and literacy.
- Over the past 2 years, 97% of our students passed the Praxis Examination for certification on their first attempt.
- A wide variety of clinical placements are available locally at area hospitals, schools, private practices, and rehabilitation facilities.
