Department of Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology and Deaf Studies

Audiology Doctoral Program

It is the philosophy of the Department of Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology and Deaf Studies that our responsibility as educators is to facilitate students' development of critical thinking and analytic skills and to encourage independent learning by teaching the process of information gathering and synthesis. The program of study for the Au.D. is intended to train clinicians who will demonstrate competencies in:

  1. Oral, written and other forms of communication
  2. Scientific and research foundations of practice
  3. Prevention and identification of communication disorders
  4. Evaluation of disorders of auditory, balance, communication and related systems
  5. Treatment of auditory, balance, and related communication disorders

The Applied Doctorate in Audiology program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

The Au.D. degree will prepare the individual for national certification and state licensure. All clinical requirements of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Department of Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology and Deaf Studies must be completed before the Au.D. degree is awarded.

Towson University's Au.D. program includes a faculty with a student-centered focus, an active on-campus clinic with state of the art diagnostic, treatment, teaching and research equipment, and a location within the Baltimore-Washington, DC corridor that has many dynamic and varied off-campus clinical opportunities.
